What if I am too shy to say what I really want to say to you or I feel that you are too tough to hear it?

What if I make it humorous by saying, “In case I am attacked by aliens I want to let you know how much I love you, how proud I am of you, how much I value your friendship, etc.”?

What if they laugh but they hear you?
